FAB-RUARY DAY 15: Fave Artist

Linking up with I Will Bloom for Fab-ruary…A month of blog challenges to help you ‘find the fab’.

Julian Beever is not your typical artist.  He is known for his pavement drawings, that have a 3D illusion when viewed a certain way.  They do not look 3D to the naked eye, they can be viewed on a mobile phone, ipad or other screen, as well as a camera which he has set up on a tripod for people to look through.

His drawings typically take 4 days to create.

It is definitely all about perspective.

You can visit his website and view some of his 3D drawings here, or you can Google his name.

He’s also compiled a book with his drawings in it.  I think this would make an interesting coffee table book.

These are just a few of his drawings.

FAB-RUARY DAY 13: Dream Big

dreams-quote

I have always wanted to own a Bed and Breakfast.  Would love to find an old Victorian Home in a great location, and restore it to its original beauty.  The funny thing is, I am not a morning person, nor am I a big breakfast person.  I am definitely a night owl, and love snacks and desserts.  If I could really come up with the details and how it could work, I thought of opening just the opposite and call it a late night Snack and Shack…yeah…still need to work out the kinks on that one, LOL.  Anniehow…I guess the Bed and Breakfast thing appeals to me since I feel like I spend most of my time cooking and cleaning, and can actually enjoy it at times.  But with owning a B&B you would meet so many fascinating people, and the whole hospitality thing appeals to me too, the whole feeding people and making them feel comfortable sounds like fun.  It would also be nice to have some sort of area in the B&B where small events could be held as well.

There are a lot of old homes in the small town that I live in, and we do have several events throughout the year, and a pretty big festival in the summer called Pierogi Fest (which was featured on the Food Network).  I was talking with my mom one day, about how I would love to turn one of these old homes out here into a B&B.  She then says,  that’s funny that you mention that, that is something your dad said he always wanted to do.

I guess what it all comes down to, are these quotes by Walt Disney:

“If you can dream it, you can do it”
and
“All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them”

and this should be our motivation…

Happy Homemaker Monday 02/09

HHMLinking-up with Sandra at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom.

THE WEATHER OUTSIDE IS:
Cold…it’s 30 degrees but feels like 21…brrrr.  Saw some flurries today.  Looking at a high on Thursday of only 15.

ON THE BREAKFAST PLATE THIS MORNING:
Banana bread and coffee with my favorite Sweet Cream Coffee creamer.

AS I LOOK OUTSIDE MY WINDOW:
Still plenty of snow around.  Some of it melted over the weekend, but the sidewalks are finally cleared as well as the streets.  All around town, there are mounds of snow piled up in different places.

AS I LOOK AROUND THE HOUSE:
Actually it is clean.  Spent my Sunday morning cleaning.

ON TODAY’S TO DO LIST:
Home school lessons, run some errands, and do the few loads of laundry left…I almost got it all done yesterday…ALMOST!!  So close. 😦

CURRENTLY READING:
Evening Stars by Susan Mallery

Tsunami 2004 Still Wading Through Waves of Hope by Holly Michael.  This author is a good friend of mine, she actually went with her husband to where the Tsunami hit the hardest, she published this book in time for the 10th anniversary of the Tsunami.

ON THE TV TODAY:
Just read here that The Good Wife will return March 9th, looking forward to that.  I am thinking about starting the Downtown Abbey series.  My mom just bought the whole thing for my sister and she began watching it, and is hooked.  That’s a lot of catching up to do though.

ON THE MENU THIS WEEK:
Turkey Bacon Club Sandwiches
Cheesy Chicken, Alfredo Noodles, Green Beans and Crescent Rolls
Chicken Pot Pie
Cheeseburgers, fries and deviled eggs (My youngest calls this dinner Burger Queen, lol)

WHAT I AM CREATING AT THE MOMENT:
Does creating a nice shade of hair color count?  Being that I am not a natural red head, and my wonderful genes have me graying way too early, I have been experimenting to find a nice red color, that looks natural and won’t fade as much.  My mom and I were hairstylists once upon a time.  My daughter tells me it makes me look younger…so yeah…we’re sticking with this one, LOL.  Need to take a new pic…someday.

NEW RECIPE I WANT TO TRY THIS WEEK:
I tried the Banana Beignets from Sandra’s food blog, you can find the recipe here.  These were really good.  Had a hard time working with the dough, but they have a really good flavor.  I really should be trying recipes for main dishes, but I am always drawn to the desserts. 🙂  Making the Simple Bread Pudding again this week!!

FAVORITE PHOTO FROM CAMERA Here are a couple more photos from my daughter.

FAB-RUARY DAY 7: Books you’ve loved – loved as a child – want to read

day7

Linking up with I Will Bloom for Fab-ruary…A month of blog challenges to help you ‘find the fab’.

Books!!  You had me at books.  I hate to say it, but I did not like to read at all growing up.  In fact I hated to read. (that was actually hard to type, lol).   All during high school, I used Cliff notes for every book we had to read.  Except one.  I was a sophomore in high school, and we were assigned to read S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders.  This one only kept my attention because also that year, the movie came out, with a cast including some of the 80’s heartthrobs:  C. Thomas Howell, Ralph Macchio, Patrick Swayze, Matt Dillion, Tom Cruise, Emilio Estevez and Rob Lowe.  It was a good story, and I did finish the book.

It was probably about 13 years ago that I began reading, and really enjoying it.  The more I read, the more I loved to read.  I especially enjoy reading books that are in a series.  Here are a few of my favorites.

Nikki Heat Series by Richard Castle.  This particular series is so clever, and they are well written.  It is based on the 93show Castle (one of my favorites).  In the show Richard Castle is an author, and Kate Beckett is a detective and his inspiration/muse to the books he writes.  I just love that a fictional character is the author of these books.  On the back of the books is a huge picture of Richard Castle played by Nathan Fillion.  The books are usually based on one of the episodes of the show, and are very well written murder mysteries.  I just think this is a very clever marketing tool as well.

The Fools Gold series by Susan Mallery.   Based in a small town with fascinating characters, especially the Mayor, who is female and California’s longest serving mayor.

The Inn Boonsboro Trilogy by Nora Roberts.  A detailed story about the renovation of an old inn.  I love how she describes tile patterns and fabrics, and furniture throughout the book, it’s like you are a part of the renovation itself.  The characters are fun too. Nora Roberts actually owns this inn and renovated it.  The Inn is located in Boonsboro, Maryland, and is absolutely beautiful.

Cedar Cover series by Debbie Macomber.  This series is based in a small town as well.  Each book is a different 0020730e8ea40d7be65d93a3cf6b431aaddress, which I liked, and the first number of each address is the order in which it falls in the series.  I just like little details like that. 🙂  This was made into a series on the Hallmark channel, and I thought would be really good.  But I didn’t like who they chose to play the main character.  The stories are very good.

Friday Harbor Series by Lisa Kleypas.  This is also a series based on a renovation of an old Victorian (LOVE Victorian homes).  I have to share the first line of the first book, I had to read it twice:

The ghost had tried many times to leave the house, but it was impossible.

Very. good. stories.
