Happy Homemaker Monday 07.25.16

Good Morning Afternoon!! Yeah…believe it or not I started this post this morning, I love technology, until I don’t!!  All kinds of problems with my Internet this morning. Must be from the bad storms yesterday.  Anniehow…

I have been gone far too long.  My stats have flat lined, and there were cobwebs all over my blog.  So let’s dust things off and be on with it.  I am off from my job until September, but I have found a lot to keep me busy.  The boys will be starting a virtual school this year, which is something new for me, so I have been busy with the enrollment process for that, working on getting a web site together for my Bookkeeping business I am looking to start, and just whatever else comes up on a summer day.  This weekend in our town is Pierogi Fest.  Tons of people, so I don’t know that I will venture out, but I just might, been thinking about Elephant Ears and Funnel Cakes!!  Hope everyone is staying cool, it has been extremely hot the last couple of days.

 FROM THE CAMERA:

Enjoyed time with my brother and his granddaughter, (my great niece!!) who is seven, the other day, we all went for a walk through the park, and splashed our feet in the water at the beach, where she exclaimed, “I feel so alive.” Lol.  A fun day in the sun. I always forget about this Koi pond at the park, so beautiful.

Happy 4th of July!! This is/was a big weekend for me. Saturday, I had my 30th High School Reunion.  Had a blast catching up with some old friends.  We had a small class, so you knew everyone, and even after all these years, we all just picked up right where we left off.

Today is also my Benji’s birthday!! He’s my youngest and turns 11 today. He has informed me that after today, he will be called Ben.  😥 my heart. It won’t be long before he joins rank in the land of giants, with my other two tall boys!!  See fun pics below.

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and, and enjoy the upcoming week!!

WHAT’S FEEDING MY BOOK ADDICTION:
This book. Get it on Amazon. By fellow blogger, Dan Alattore.

thenavigatorsfinalWhat drew me to this book was the cover, then to find out it’s about archaeology students on a dig who unearth a time machine!?!? I had to read it. I have always been intrigued by archaeology. This book grabs you from the beginning and doesn’t let go until the. very. last. line. Dan Alattore is an exceptional writer, the details, feelings and wit in this story draw you in, and you feel like you are right there with each character. His characters are true to life, some lovable some not so much.

It has all the ingredients for a great summer read. A suspenseful time travel story, seasoned with entertaining characters, and peppered with a little romance, what’s not to love!! This story makes you really think about the possibility of time travel, and is done in such a way that I haven’t seen done before. I look forward to reading this book again, it’s one of those stories that I’m sure I will find some detail that I missed the first time, and will enhance the story even more.

RECIPE I WANT TO TRY:
Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding

Been wanting some bread pudding, what do you think about this one Carrie? This looks incredibly delicious!!

This is one of my favorite parts of the 4th.  These planes fly over the beginning of the parade.  This is our flag and the flag from the Library across the street.  What a sweet job this would be, just flying around on the 4th.  It may be a small town, but we do the fourth big!!

I’m ashamed to call myself a book lover, haven’t read anything in awhile. I did finish the beta read, and it was a lot of fun providing feedback.

RECIPE I WANT TO TRY:
Banana Split Ice Box Cake
This looks like such a delicious summer time treat!!

SUPERHERO SATURDAY:
So The Avenger’s for Superhero Saturday were legit. All along our main street, there were various vendors selling things. They set up the Superheros in front of the school. We had to wait in line, to get our picture taken with them. It was a long line. At first I wasn’t sure I wanted to wait in such a long line, I mean, if that was actually RDJ in that Iron Man suit, there would be no question, lol. But it was the main reason we came, it was a nice day, and the boys and I had fun even in the waiting.

Just after we started moving up in the line, the Superheros had to take a break 😐 It was supposed to be a 20 minute break which turned into 35, I was like what the heck, are they on Asgard time or what? So this is the video of them returning from their break. I don’t know who the little girl was, but one very lucky one for sure. That’s Captain America!!

The organizers of the event kept the line moving for pics. So it was pretty quick. The Superheros were very friendly, shook our hands, talked with Benji a little bit as we posed. When they took one look at Elijah, Thor was like, dude, you get in back with the Superheros.

There was another section that had Bumble Bee. This guy was there last year. The car is awesome!! There was a section where you could play bags, which also looked like Bumble Bee.

There were rock climbing walls, and bouncy houses, and then a whole section of vendors selling comic books and action figures, which is where they boys really wanted to go. Also a couple of boulders along the way, that the boys so graciously moved out of the way for me. Everyone is a Superhero on Superhero Saturday.

Good Morning!!  We are officially on summer break!!  Well from school anyways, I made a list of things I would like to accomplish.  At least I’ll have some free time in the mornings to get things done.  Hoping to get more writing in, AND getting through my Crayligraphy classes.  Today I plan to do just that, it is my birthday after all, but I will have to go to work in the afternoon.  Word Press informed me that I had an anniversary on the third.  I started this blog when I turned 40.  I cannot believe that it has been 8 years already, its come a long way, and I am so grateful for all the wonderful people I have met in the blogosphere!!  Have a great week everyone!!

WHAT’S FEEDING MY BOOK ADDICTION:
I am currently reading a non-fiction book called, The Power of Surrender by Judith Orloff, M.D. The cover says, Let go and energize your relationships, success, and well-being. It’s pretty interesting so far. Our summer reading program has started at the library, hope to read some for that as well.

RECIPE I WANT TO TRY:
This looked really yummy to me. I’m thinking that all the cheese is probably canceling out the nutritious benefits of asparagus, but whatever. I’ll let you know how it turns out, and if my kids will actually eat it, lol.

FAVORITE VIDEO FROM THE WEB:
This was just fun to watch, took me back to my high school days, these are pretty much most of my favorite rap tunes from that time.

FROM THE CAMERA:
Our new rain gauge in our backyard. The little bit of rain that was collected was after a downpour, amazing how only that much registered, it sounded flood-worthy coming down, lol.  The grass certainly enjoyed it.  The little gnome is our fun memorial to my dad. He had a white beard and mustache (not as long) but he used to lay just like this while watching TV.

What a beautiful long weekend, the weather is gorgeous.  Kicking off the summer with some grilling today.  Yesterday I cleaned the garage, and got the grill ready.  I feel like today is the official start of summer.  Our town has a memorial service, to commemorate this day at one of the memorials in town, including the 21 gun salute, where they use rifles at the ceremony, and end it with the M80 blasts that are shot off just behind our house.  See video below, nothing says America like a 21 gun salute!!  Hope everyone has a great week, as we head into summer!!

Still reading the book that I am reviewing. If my time wasn’t so limited, I would of finished it by now, it’s really good.

RECIPE I TRIED/ONE I WANT TO TRY:
OK…so I didn’t actually make this, but I did “try” it, as in eating, and it was delicious!! My mom made a cake using just an Angel Food cake mix and Cherry Pie Filling. You mix the two together, and bake it. Top it with Cool Whip, and it is delicious!! The sweet fruity flavor, along with the light airiness of the Angel Food, topped with Cool Whip is just really refreshing, a great summer-time cake.

FAVORITE VIDEO FROM MY PHONE:

Our flag in front of our house blowing in the cool breeze this beautiful Memorial Day, as the 21 gun salute commenced.

CREATIVE CORNER:
I have yet to get into my hand lettering lessons, UGH!! I’ve signed up for a class where this guy teaches calligraphy using Crayola markers, he calls it Crayligraphy. I am planning on doing some today.

But my sons are always being creative with their Legos. Together they have been doing stop motion videos, and created their own You Tube channel for it, check it out or share it with your kids. It’s amazing how there is a whole community for the customizing of the Lego mini figures. Elijah has entered a couple of contests and has actually held a few of his own. Great outlet for kids!!
